China’s Navy has welcomed a new addition to its fleet with the commissioning of the 054B missile frigate, the Qinzhou. This state-of-the-art warship has already begun its operational journey with a series of intense, realistic combat exercises in the South China Sea.
A New Force in the Fleet
The 054B frigate is the latest evolution of China’s naval capabilities. The Qinzhou, designated as the second ship of this class with the pennant number 555, was officially commissioned into the South Sea Fleet on April 12, 2025. This follows the first 054B, the **Luhe** (pennant number 545), which was delivered to the North Sea Fleet in January 2025. Both ships were built in under two years, showcasing China’s rapid progress in naval construction.
